Sweet Itch Apron

This has been designed for horses that suffer from the debilitating disease Sweet Itch, which is an allergic reaction to the summer midges, “no see-ums”, aka culicoides.  Horses suffer in silence from this intense itchiness. Creams and potions don’t work unless they are applied so thick every day, especially dawn and dusk when the midges are most active.  Some people will get fly sheets that cover the whole body, but as a summer disease, often you can’t keep your horse in a fly blanket as they will be sweating in 30+ Degree weather, or it may not be tight flush against the midline, and will still allow bidges to bite, causing your horse to go into a major allergic response. So our answer is the sweet-itch Apron. This is designed to only protect where needed. The midges are found under the chest, girth area, navel, and sheath area the most. If you prevent the midges from biting your horse as he is allergic to their saliva, your horse in turn won’t have a hyper immune response that can cause intense itching, which can lead to bleeding and infections, let alone the frustration! Keep your horse comfortable while not worrying about his overheating in a rug during the summer!
